UFC divisional rankings: Dustin Poirier moves into tie with Tony Ferguson after UFC Fight Night win

This past Saturday, Dustin Poirier went to war with Dan Hooker in a battle of top five lightweights. Poirier, fighting for the first time since losing the interim lightweight title in a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, showed heart and determination in overcoming the early charge of Hooker to take over the fight late and pick up the unanimous decision victory. Poirier's win set up an interesting situation in the CBS Sports UFC rankings. Tony Ferguson was ranked No. 2 in the division before a one-sided loss to Justin Gaethje dropped him a spot. After Poirier defeated Hooker, a debate emerged over whether he had done enough to jump Ferguson or if he would remain at No. 4. After the votes from the CBS panel were tallied, Poirier and Ferguson were deadlocked in a tie for the No. 3 spot. Hooker remained at No. 5 following the competitive loss to Poirier. There is no UFC event this coming weekend, the next event is UFC 251 on July 11, the first of the "Fight Island" series of fights from Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. At UFC 251, there are six fights involving CBS Sports ranked fighters: • Welterweight: No. 1 Kamaru Usman (c) vs. No. 5 Gilbert Burns • Featherweight: No. 1 Alexander Volkanovski vs. No. 2 Max Holloway • Bantamweight: No. 1 Petr Yan vs. No. 8 Jose Aldo • Women's Strawweight: No. 2 Jessica Andrade vs. No. 9 Rose Namajunas Can't get enough UFC?
