People 'too scared to sleep' after watching new ITV show - and it's a true story
Viewers of ITV's Des have been left 'scared to sleep' over its spine-chilling scenes.
The true-crime three-part drama follows the arrest and trial of Dennis 'Des' Nilsen, played by David Tennant, who confessed to killing up to 16 men in his London home between 1978 and 1983.
Line of Duty actors Daniel Mays and Jason Watkins, and Ben Bailey Smith also star in the series.
The resemblance between David and the serial killer is uncanny anyway, but when paired with acting which viewers said should " win all the awards ", it's clear to see why the 5.4 million people who tuned in were left "scared to go to sleep".
One person said: "Oh it’s time to scare myself silly again watching @itv#Des I’m hoping @TwiningsUK sleep is going to help this evening #scared #itv #itvdes #tea #twinings #sleep."
Another tweeted a member of the Des cast Daniel Mays - the detective in charge of the case, DCI Jay: "@DanielMays9 Just watched Des, scared to go to sleep now!"
A third added: "I can attest that reading Dennis Nilsen’s Wikipedia page before turning in doesn’t make for a great night’s sleep. #Des."
A fourth said: " @ITV created another great drama in “Des” and the whole cast and crew deserve plaudits! Kept me gripped through the 3 nights! Tennant was so good in the role as well! #Des " .
"Really enjoyed watching #Des on ITV David Tennant is utterly brilliant, but equally it's very creepy and scary" said another.
