Martin Boyle focussed on Hibs success after missing out on mixing it with Messi
Had circumstances been different, Martin Boyle would have kicked off his seventh season in a Hibernian shirt after a summer of testing himself against some of the world's best.
The Australian international likely would have been part of the Socceroos squad that travelled to Argentina as an invited team for the 2020 Copa America.
But while a date with Lionel Messi and co is now on hold until at least next year thanks to COVID-19, the 27-year-old is fixed on helping the Hibees return to their own continental competition.
The winger got off to the perfect start as his brace catapulted the men in green and white to the top of the Premiership on the opening day - albeit temporarily.
However, Boyle is convinced the squad is strong enough to be challenging at the right end of the table this campaign.
"The target is a Europa League spot, top four, maybe we can push even higher," he said.
"I try not to set personal targets, it has been a long journey to get here for me, so I just want to go and score goals and help the team out."
Jack Ros s handed debuts to all three of his summer signings, with Alex Gogic and Drey Wright lining up alongside Kevin Nisbet, who assisted Boyle for his early opener.
