Manchester United evening headlines as Reds make Premier League squad decision
Here are the Manchester United evening headlines on Saturday, May 23.
Manchester United have selected a provisional squad as they prepare to restart their Premier League campaign.
The league is expected to resume next month after clubs began training again.
United, who reopened their Carrington complex on Wednesday, have picked 29 players who will be involved should the Premier League go ahead as planned.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should have a fully fit squad to choose from after Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba recovered from long-term injuries.
The squad may be cut back if Odion Ighalo’s loan cannot be extended, and the contract of Angel Gomes, set to expire at the end of June, also needs to be addressed.
United set to vote on phase two of Project Restart
United will vote on whether stage two of Project Restart should be implemented in the coming week.
Premier League clubs are set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the reintroduction of full-contact training sessions.
Phase one of Project Restart began this week, with players taking part in socially distanced sessions at Carrington on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Players have been instructed to maintain a two-metre distance at all times, and are being regularly tested for Covid-19.
“I hope, subject to the sign-off by Public Health England and others, we will then later this week, very shortly, get the guidance about how we can have training in a contact environment, this is for elite sports, so they can start to build-up,” said Culture secretary Oliver Dowden.
