United are playing the long game with Dortmund in hope that Sancho's £115million price tag can be reduced.
The Red Devils have made it known that they will not part with more than £50m to secure the England international.
However, reports in Germany suggest Dortmund believe United have more money available in the coffers and are just playing hardball.
Dortmund will have to bring in a replacement if they let Sancho move to Old Trafford.
German publication Waz claim Lucien Favre's side will not sell the 20-year-old once the Bundesliga season kicks off.
