ISIS 'blooper reel' shows fighters forgetting lines and on-camera bird intrusions
A released ISIS 'blooper reel' shows a fighter messing up his lines after being interrupted by a squawking bird.
The clip shows recruits attempting to pledge their allegiance to the caliphate but one stumbles over his words and becomes drowned out by the loud-mouthed bird.
Dr Elisabeth Kendall, a senior research fellow at Oxford University's Pembroke College unearthed the 2017 video of outtakes from a propaganda film.
It has been released this week by Hidayah Media Production - an al Qaeda linked propaganda media outlet.
Back when it was filmed, ISIS held territory in Iraq and Syria and recruits were trying to drag new members in from further afield.
ISIS and Al-Qaeda are rival jihadist organizations and have been known to insult and belittle each other.
The video's insurgent, identified by the Independent as Abu Muhammad al-Adeni, is seen giggling in the video, while his fellow recruit tells him: "Stay calm, keep cool."
The speaker gets flustered and starts stroking his beard and shifting in his seat.
He has to pull out a piece of paper with his notes on to remember what he was saying.
The footage may have been found by Al-Qaeda operatives when they took over an ISIS camp in northwestern al-Bayda, Yemen, earlier this summer, Kendall told Business Insider.
A caption at the start of the Hidayah video, released to mark the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha, said: "Look O viewing brother at this scene and [how] they are practicing [their scene] in order to show it as spontaneous when, actually, it is a scene they acted out."
ISIS and Al-Qaeda are currently fighting over territory in Yemen.
