Awkwafina and Karen Gillan reunite for upcoming film Shelly...after starring in Jumanji together
They starred alongside one another in the 2019 blockbuster Jumanji: The Next Level.
And now actresses Awkwafina, 31, and Karen Gillan, 32, are set to reunite for the upcoming action-comedy film Shelly, as reported by Deadline on Thursday.
Though Hollywood productions are at a standstill due to COVID-19, Shelly is currently being pitched by Ian Bryce Productions and expected to 'sell fast.'
The film - written by screenwriters Michael Doneger and Liz Storm - follows character Shelly Wheeler (played by Awkwafina) who was run out of her hometown a decade prior following 'an embarrassing prom prank.'
The trauma caused by the callous prank 'hardened' Shelly's once tender heart and led her on the path to becoming an 'ice-cold hit-woman.'
When she learns that her next hit target is 'her former high school tormentor' Dianna Park (played by Gillan), she is finally presented with the opportunity to avenge her high school self.
But Dianna 'unexpectedly befriends Shelly' and finds herself thrust into the 'cool crowd' she has always secretly yearned to be a part of.
Dianna must now protect 'her old nemesis against another hit crew hired to kill them both.'
Jude Weng is set to direct the film that is described as having a 'Mean Girls meets Barry' type tone.
Ian Bryce of Ian Bryce Productions will produce Shelly, with Will McCance as executive producer and Katie Malott as co-producer.
