Arteta names one Arsenal player who was 'great' against Manchester City
Despite being beaten by Manchester City, there was an air of optimism inside Arsenal. Arteta stuck to his usual game plan with just the result not falling into their feet.
The manager analyzed his player’s performance in the game. Bukayo Saka created the best chances in the game while others put up a decent shift. But to the Spaniard, David Luiz stood out in his performance for Arsenal.
The veteran defender wasn’t named in the lineup with Rob Holding starting over him. But Holding’s injury in the warm-up allowed Luiz to step in. He partnered Gabriel and Tierney in the back three.
After the game against Man City, Arsenal manager Arteta praised David Luiz. To his eyes, the Brazilian center-back did well in his display in that 1-0 defeat. He also said the last moment change was a bad one to take.
Speaking to Football London Arteta said, “It was bad enough to make the decision to get him out of the game and get David in. David was really focused, he came on and I think he had a great game.”
Earlier, the Spaniard defended Luiz in his bad moment. Particularly in this fixture last season when the 33-year-old committed two errors and got himself red-carded.
Luiz has been the preferred choice of Arteta in most of the games for Arsenal. He got the nod over Gabriel against Liverpool and played a major part in the FA Cup triumph last campaign. He’s been a key figure for Arteta.
