Arsene Wenger fires back at Jose Mourinho after autobiography accusations
Arsene Wenger has hit back at Jose Mourinho after the Tottenham boss claimed he was left out of the Frenchman’s book because ‘he never beat me’.
The pair were rivals during their time together in the Premier League and Wenger tasted victory against Mourinho just once during his career.
Despite the flare-ups between the duo, Mourinho wasn’t mentioned in Wenger’s autobiography and his absence looked peculiar given the long history between the two managers.
Mourinho was asked about his omission from the book in Friday’s press conference and the Portuguese coach gave a typically bullish response.
‘Because he never beat me,’ said Mourinho.
‘You are not going to do a chapter about 12 or 14 matches and never win one so why should he speak about me in his book?’
‘A book is a thing to make you happy, to make you proud so I understand perfectly the situation.’
The pair appeared to put their problems aside by the end of Wenger’s time at Arsenal but the Frenchman has fired back by accusing the Spurs boss of ‘constant provocation’.
‘With him it’s constant provocation,’ Wenger told Canal Plus.
‘I feel like I am at kindergarten, but that is part of his personality.’
Despite vowing to return to management, Wenger is yet to take a new club role since leaving Arsenal in 2018.
The Frenchman is currently working with FIFA but he’s not given up hope of a return, even if the likelyhood of that happening is diminishing.
