Tighter lockdown feared in Manchester area as rule breaches rise
Reports of coronavirus rule breaches in Greater Manchester have risen by 25 per cent in a weekend at a time when it is feared that high rates in Oldham could lead to the entire area facing tighter restrictions.
Between Friday and Sunday, police received 1,106 reports of coronavirus breaches, with 540 relating to house gatherings and parties.
Ten people were arrested and 11 fines were issued, Greater Manchester police said.
Gatherings in homes have been prohibited in Greater Manchester and some other parts of the north.
Meanwhile, concern was mounting over the coronavirus rate in Oldham, which has almost doubled in a week.
The borough now has the highest seven-day level of infections in the country, with 107.5 cases per 100,000 people in the week
